His partner, pharmacist Henri Rivier, discovered that by dissolving benzoin in alcohol at 90° a persistent smell was obtained. The addition of fragrance gives a pleasant and tenacious aromatic mixture. All that remains is to find support. It will be the blotting paper that absorbs the mixture while retaining the original smell of benzoin and burns slowly without making a flame. The manufacture of the oldest home fragrance is artisanal and worthy of that of a luxury product 6 months and no less than 12 production steps are necessary to obtain the famous little notebook.
